Building with Rammed Earth is a two-day course run at Earthship Brighton in partnership with Brighton Permaculture Trust. The course is for anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to building with rammed earth and chalk, an ancient and low impact form of construction. The next course dates are:

All around the world people have been building using rammed earth for thousands of years. This course will cover the basics from the benefits of building with the material, finding the right earth, choosing a formwork system, construction methods, design detailing and different approaches and the various tools used. There will be a large practical component to the course, with the construction of a section of wall.
About the tutor
The course will be led by Rowland Keable who has been building earth structures since 1985 and has worked extensively in Africa and the UK. He has worked for public and private clients and published two books, including Rammed Earth: design and construction guidelines. He is a founder and Project Officer of Earth Building UK (EBUK). He is working on a European Training Standard with 8 European countries. He is Director of Rammed Earth Consulting, and Honorary Professor to the UNESCO Chair on Earthen Architecture.
