Building with Cob

Building with Cob is a two-day course run at Earthship Brighton in partnership with Brighton Permaculture Trust.  All of the tyre walls at Earthship Brighton were packed out with cob and plastered with clay.

The course is open to those aged 16 or over, and is suitable for anyone from complete beginners to those who are experienced with eco-building and want to learn more.

Participants will learn about the raw materials and how to mix them, as well as gain practical experience of building cob ovens. Those who complete the entire course will receive a certificate, which will be sent via email after the course.

About the cob tutor

The course will be lead by Jon Kalviac, who has worked on Earthship Brighton, Groundhouse Sheppey and also on the Zwolle Earthship in Holland. John is a regular tour guide of Earthship Brighton and has much experience of working with cob and rammed earth.

Mischa Hewitt will be assisting John. Mischa was one of the project managers of Earthship Brighton, is the author of the book Earthships in Europe and has worked on many eco renovation projects.
